With fall in the air, many Uptown parents are starting to think about things like back to school-supplies, digging out the winter clothes and Halloween costume ideas. Halloween will be here before we know it. A group of volunteers and Denver Police District 6 officials are hard at work planning one of the city’s largest youth Halloween parties. The event, in its nineteenth year, draws over 2,000 children and their families each year and gives away nearly 2-tons of candy each year.
Some of the scheduled events include the opportunity for kids to have a personal photograph with a police officer, obtaining a picture identification card, trick or treat lane with lots of candy, a haunted tent, a haunted bus, fire trucks, ambulances, police cars, the DPD lo-rider car, the real CSI, SWAT officers and equipment, police horses, and police motorcycles.
The event is a much-needed fun and safe environment for neighborhood kids and is 100% funded by private donations of citizens and businesses. The Halloween committee is still working to raise approximately $2,000 to produce the event this year and is asking for your help. They also need volunteers both before and during the event. The District 6 Halloween event will be held on Halloween night, October 31st, from 4pm – 7pm at 1566 Washington St. and is geared towards children less than 12 years of age, accompanied by a responsible adult and will be held regardless of weather. Parts of the event are held outdoors and participants should dress accordingly. There is no public parking at the station, so carpooling and drop off/pick up is highly recommended. Attendees should be diligent that they park legally to avoid being ticketed and towed.
